You have probably seen the slogan “factory direct” quite a bit in relation to cabinetry companies. It seems like “factory direct” would have an obvious meaning: these cabinets come directly from the manufacturer to you!

Sounds simple, but some companies impose this slogan while selling multiple brands of cabinetry. Multiple brands can mean that the company is in the business of reselling, not manufacturing. "Factory direct" can mean that the salesman is getting the cabinets directly from the factory. “Wait, they’re not building the cabinets themselves?” Sometimes not.

So what does a company like ZCI Woodworks, which really designs, manufactures, finishes, and installs its cabinetry under one company, call itself? Some would say "Factory direct" or "design build" in the truest form of the terms. ZCI Woodworks can design, build, finish, and install cabinetry and millwork in-house.
