Piecing Together Custom Cabinetry

When envisioning home design through the use of custom cabinetry and millwork, the estimated price tag can sometimes look a bit heavy. This is not a bad thing. We all dream big, so when the idea of your dream home comes into focus, it may look larger than life.

Does this mean that your dream home is impossible? Absolutely not.

What people may not realize is that with custom work can come a custom timeline. For instance, if a client would like to eventually redesign their whole living room but wants to do it gradually, the initial pieces of cabinetry and millwork can be designed and installed ready to accept any additional work for the future. This is one of the many ways that Z Carpentry excels in cabinetry and millwork.

For clarity, let us look at one such project in Melville, New York.

This client wished to redesign their den, but were not fully ready to commit to the work and time involved to accomplish this in one large project. Instead, they began their renovation with a custom-made wet bar.

This unit featured display cases, glass shelving, glass-paneled doors, as well as a wine regulator unit, among other amenities. The unit itself was built out of maple and stained with a cherry color. Upon finishing the unit, the wet bar was installed as any singular unit would. It did not have anything missing that would need to be installed later when the second phase of the project was to begin.

The second phase of the project came later, with a new contract. By working a design of cabinetry that could stand alone but also allow itself to be a part of a larger scope of millwork, ZCI Millwork was able to help spread out the time and costs of the project for the client.

The final project incorporated that wet bar into the den, which featured coffered ceilings, built-in bookcases, and a fireplace mantel. The perimeter was framed with a custom crown molding, which was the point of alternation to incorporate the now-existing wet bar into the room.

Best of all, the project looked exactly like it was envisioned from the start.
